Parents’
Update July 28-August 1, 2008
Thank you so much to the parents of Qianna, Maru, Migo and Lean, for opening their homes to our Kinder and Prep home visits last week. Home visits allow the Rayans to learn about the parts of a home, activities that families do together and help them appreciate their own families, as well. In addition, they get to do a lot of special things (like playing instruments at Maru’s parents’ bar along Ybardolaza Street, or cooking up a feast!). We hope that we will get to visit other Rayans’ homes in the years to come.
By the way, I’d like to invite you to visit the exhibit of 25 Best Loved Children’s Book Characters at the CCP. The exhibit will run until August 6. Teacher Maybelle brought her little Sophie there last week and Sophie had such a great time!

Nursery Tutubi, Pawikan and Pipit
I am pleased to share with everyone how our little ones are growing up so fast; so many good things in just 7 weeks! Most of them have gotten into the rhythm of school and gained independence.
Onto a theme that is very close to our hearts—My Home is our focus these coming weeks. With the stories Blue Day and Si Tiktaktok at Pikpakbum we will be answering the question, Who are the members of my family? as well as gain a perspective of how other families are like. We will be making fingers puppets, sharing our family pictures with each other as well as taste each other’s family’s favorite food. We will also build a table about the number of members in each family and do a survey of each family member’s height. We will also work on this week’s number and letter.
Our music and dance classes are also on a roll this week as we finalize the steps for our Pista sa Raya pieces (Itik-itik and Ningning ng Munting Bituin). On Friday we’ll be inviting very special people to share with us what makes their families unique.
Looking forward the week ahead!

We all had a great time last Friday. We had our first fieldtrip and visited Qianna and Maru’s homes. Thanks to the Sanchez (Adlaw) and Romero (Bulan) families for accommodating us and showing us your wonderful homes!
We’re entering a new theme this week and it’s all about school! Who are our friends in school? We’ll find out with the help of this week’s story Will I have a Friend? We’ll also learn good grooming and hygiene that is important in making and keeping friends. We’ll have a lesson in naming words; recognizing numbers that go before a number; and sounding, writing and identifying letter Cc. With our storybook Og Uhog, we’ll learn not only how to blow our noses properly, but also how to make friends in class. We’ll talk about the characteristics of Raya kids that make us unique students, review our knowledge in shapes and colors, learn pronouns Ako and Ikaw, and a lot more.
It’s a fun week for all of us and to cap it off, we’ll be learning how to groom and dress ourselves on Friday. We’ll be doing self help activities that proves our being big boys and girls in Kinder!
By the way, please continue practicing our Pista songs with your kids! 2 more weeks before Pista sa Raya! :)

Bathala and Kabunyian
Everybody sure got hungry from the delicious smell of cooking pancakes coming from the Prep Kabunyian class last Friday!J We thank Emibelle Uboñgen and Carol Bunagan again for welcoming the Prep Bathala class in their lovely homes last Tuesday, J On Monday, it will be the Prep Kabunyian’s turn to do a home visit. They will be going to Chloe Laparan’s grandparents’ house and do a little cooking activity.
Next week, we will start our discussion about our school. We will use the literary pieces Ang Paaralan ni Fuwan and If You Take a Mouse to School to help us talk about the different activities that we do in school. We will also touch on the people, places and objects found in our school and how they differs from those at home. Also, in Science, we will tackle the different weather conditions and create our own anemometer. In Math, we will do a daily bar graph of the snacks we eat and the clothes we wear in school. We will also talk about demonstrative pronouns (This and That) in English, and proper and common nouns in Filipino. Lastly, on Friday, both classes will do a treasure hunt activity using a map of the school.
Again, as a reminder, you may start looking for the Prep’s costume (for girls: Balintawak dress (knee-length) and for boys: white camisa chino and black pants with yellow handkerchief) for our Pista celebration in August and also practice this song at home.

We, Filipinos are all equal in more ways than one. Believing in pamahiin is one thing that makes us all the same. Having a piece of history in every region in the Philippines is another. This week, we will have a deeper understanding of equality among us Filipinos as we talk about the pamahiin that each household believes in and discover more historic sites in the Philippines.
Our springboard pieces for this week remain Ang Tikbalang to be told through a puppet show and Stella Luna in an animated movie.
