Parents’
Update June 10-13, 2008
Maligayang Pagbabalik sa Raya! We are eager and excited to start learning with our continuing students, as well as our new Rayans. This year, our school population has gone up to 78 students from nursery to grade 2, and we owe it all to our parents who have generously passed on the word about Raya. The past summer, the faculty not only helped organize the first-ever national conference on early childhood education, Big Circle Time (and we hope to do this annually), we also were busy learning about new teaching methods, refining existing ones and thinking of better ways we can teach your children. We know that all our preparations will have paid off when we see your children enjoying their interactive lessons and fun-filled activities in school.
We also hope that you will help us explain the importance of June 12 to our Rayans.
I hope to see you in school :)

Nursery Tutubi, Pawikan and Pipit
This school year poses to be very exciting for everyone--not only for those who are coming to school for the first time but also for us teachers! With new kids, new things to learn and a record-breaking three sections in Nursery (Pawikan, Tutubi and Pipit), we truly look forward to a meaningful and happy learning experience.
We will find out this week what it takes to be a good part of a group-- fitting for this week’s first-day-of-school mood-- The Very Good Carabao is our springboard story.
We will work hard in making the first days of school truly unforgettable not only for our little ones but for everyone; for all of us who show love by providing good education.
Masaya po kaming maging kabahagi kayo ng lumalaking pamilya ng Raya :)

Kinder Adlaw
and Bulan
I welcome the new batch of Kinder students to Adlaw and Bulan! For our very first week in school, we’ll all get to know ourselves, our classroom, our school and our new classmates! We’ll be touring around our new room and new school (for some of us J), do fun art activities and play games with our new friends. With the help of our story Just Dog, we’ll get to know and recognize each other’s names, learn our class routine and formulate the rules we’d like to follow inside our classroom. We’ll be learning and sharing about ourselves too as we get to know ourselves more in our theme this month: I am Me!
Welcome to the Kinder Adlaw class: Zach, Luis, Zander, Ilysse, Quianna, Selena and Gabe! To Sofia, AJ, Kiev, Guile, Maru, Gabby and Mauro, welcome to Kinder Bulan! An exciting year awaits us!

Prep
Bathala and Kabunian
A fun-filled welcome party awaits this schoolyear’s Prep Bathala and Kabunyian students. We will make and decorate party hats, face sandwiches and do a short school tour! We will also do interesting math games such as touch the color and bring me. Agnes Atienza, Liam and Lyle’s mom, will also visit the Prep Bathala class to share a story about hearing impairment. On Thursday, we have the storybook, Ang Mabait na Kalabaw and we will talk about the Philippine flag. Also, on that day, we will share about our likes and dislikes using the cubbytags we designed and paint our handprints on the windows.
I’m looking forward to a great schoolyear together! See you on Tuesday!

Grade 1 Matapat
First – a word that I find to best describe this entire school year. First grade students, first time Rayans (including myself), and on June 10, their very first day of school. For their first week back in school, the Matapat students will be doing various fun activities as we welcome the start of the school year and celebrate Philippine Independence Day. In line with our very first theme We Are Who We Are, the Matapat students will learn more about themselves as Filipinos. Our springboard pieces for this week, Ang Panganay and When Time Turned, are stories that are rich in Filipino history and culture. This week, they will also be introduced to the history of the Philippine flag, Araw ng Kalayaan, and different Philippine symbols. They will also visit some of the concepts and lessons that they have previously learned such as Senses in Science, Numbers 1-100 in Math, Short Vowel and Consonant Sounds, and Nouns in Integrated Language and Arts. It will surely be a fun-filled first week of school for the Grade 1 Matapat class!
Looking forward to more great first experiences!

Maligayang pagbabalik eskuwela!
I hope you all had a wonderful summer vacation. The fun and excitement of summer continues here at Raya as we open the school year with a week-long celebration of Philippine independence. To commemorate this special event, our activities shall be Philippine flag making, flag talk, theme writing with the topic “Paano ko maipapakita ang paggalang sa watawat?”, reading the story “Inang Bayan’s New Clothes” and a discussion on the Philippine Independence Day. All throughout the first week, we will also do a lot of getting-to-know-you games, set classroom rules, appoint leaders and establish class routines.
I’m so excited to work with you and your child! I’m looking forward to a very fruitful school year together!
